The history of the Original Pita
Sub Shop started back in 1986 when Mazen and Mary Dababneh opened the first Original Pita Sub Shop in the Briarhill
Plaza located on the northwest corner of 17 Mile Road and Ryan. In its first few months after opening, the Original
Pita Sub Shop did not make a cent. Perhaps this was because food was served for free. They did this because their
potential customers didn't know about Pita subs. There were no other establishments like the Original Pita around
back in 1986. It was a bold and risky investment, but they had faith that people were willing to give it a try. The Original Pita opened its doors with the idea and concept to serve "healthy food" in a clean establishment, to an up and coming health-conscious society, sick and tired of the same old fast food joints. After the first few years in operation, the business took a dramatic turn upward. The idea of Pita Subs took off running. Due to the overwhelming response, Original Pita had to expand their operation, moving the business to the northeast corner of 17 Mile and Ryan. Willing to share in their good fortune Mazen and Mary started selling franchises in 1991. Their first franchise location was in Clinton Township. Needless to say, the location in Clinton Township was a complete success for both the Franchiser and the Franchisee. Original Pita is hopeful to expand their store locations throughout Michigan. From the time the Original Pita Sub Shop opened until now have the same concept in mind, that is to serve only the very best in quality with "NO fried foods, NO processed meats, NO fatty meat, NO grease, NO frozen foods, and NO imitations". |
